TRIBUTE TO ALBERT ELLIS: STOICISM & CBT

DAVID ALEXANDER

THURSDAY, AUG 3, 3 PM (PT)

ABOUT THE EVENT

Albert Ellis was the founder of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). Ellis wrote about how he was influenced by Stoic Philosophers and his theory underlying REBT continues to influence the modern practice of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). Ellis was the first author who formally introduced me to quotes from Marcus Aurelius and Epictetus. He had a profound influence on my path studying psychology.

Understanding Ellis and how Stoicism inspired him can help us to understand how Stoicism influences modern psychotherapy and how modern practice has grown beyond the initial cognitive behavioural theory.
