To the Preachers
I.
Preachers, hear another voice now speak, even the voice of God, who now guides my quill, saying;
“Who among you have known Me? Who hath remained in my presence? Who hath not fallen or been cut from my communion?”
“Lo, doth thou not see that a mighty work is now taking place, and that I have led many poor souls into the desert?”
“And heed now, brethren, for was it not from out of thy hands that I led them into the desert? For it was better that they should wander than that they should stay and rot in thy presence.”
“Lo, those lost souls now seek the mountains, and the high places, and they mourn and weep, for I am unable to commune with these lost souls, for none have known Me yet, and none were taught by thee to ask in faith.”
“Woe unto ye preachers who have not the heart to bear witness unto thin own dark corners, nor the mind to make peace with thyself and thy neighbours, nor the wisdom to know that by doing so thou wouldst be making peace with Me.”
“Since thou wilt not do these things, I shall send My own Son, that He might die for thy sins, and that He might show thee, by His resurrection, that thou hath been slaves, and that thou art now free.”
II.
“The hungry travellers wait in the cold, dark night by the gate of the village. Who will refuse to greet these travellers with hospitality? Who will turn them away?”
“I say, ye have surely turned many weary travellers to be on their way, and ye have refused to give meal to the needy, and presence to the lonely, and answers to the curious, and as it was spoken by Christ, “As ye have done these things unto the least of these my children, thou hath done it unto me.”
“Therefore, I shall turneth these lambs against thee, and they shall become as a thorn to thy heart, and as a disease to thy mind, and as a stone in thy shoe.”
“And thou wilt surely kick against the pricks, and I will inflate thy strife greatly, and I shall make hidden again all things which have in the past been revealed to thee.”
